Planning an RFID Rollout: From Pilot to Full Scale
A step-by-step approach to rolling out RFID: define the goal, run a pilot, choose hardware, integrate and scale.
A successful RFID project starts small, proves value and then grows. This outline works for most organisations, whatever they are tracking.
1. Define one clear goal
Pick the problem to solve first: faster audits, fewer lost tools, accurate stock or traceable files. A single goal keeps the pilot focused and makes results easy to judge.
2. Survey the site and process
Walk the process end to end. Note what is tagged, where it moves, what surfaces and materials the tags will meet, and where readers could sit. A site survey avoids surprises with metal, liquids and layout.
3. Run a pilot
Choose one area or asset group. Tag it, scan it and measure against your current process: time taken, errors found and items located. Keep the pilot short and the scope small.
4. Choose hardware to fit
Tag type, handheld versus fixed readers, and any sensors depend on what you learned in the pilot. Tag’n’Track works with devices from many manufacturers, so the choice follows your needs and budget.
5. Integrate with your systems
Connect to the ERP, WMS or other systems that hold the master data, so tag reads update records without re-keying.
6. Train the people
Teach administrators and field staff the new process. Clear roles and short guides matter as much as the technology.
7. Scale step by step
Extend to more areas, add fixed readers and gates, and switch on more solutions on the same platform.
Our implementation and support services cover each step, from survey and tagging to training and ongoing help.
